ARCHDIOCESE OF MADRID CELEBRATES YOUTH JUBILEE
|
Madrid, 29 (NE) Young faithful in Madrid celebrated with great enthusiasm their Jubilee,
expressing their joy for the 2000 anniversary of the Incarnation of the Lord Jesus. The event,
held on Palm Sunday, was preceded by a week of activities and celebrations, and will officially
end on August in Rome, where young faithful from all the world will gather together with Pope
John Paul II.
A prayer vigil, presided by Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco, Archbishop of Madrid, was held on
Saturday afternoon, attended by 500 youth. "Deep in our hearts", Cardinal Rouco said during
the event, "is the root to a new life." "The Cross is the path" to fulfill our hunger for plenitude, the
Archbishop further stressed, stating that before Jesus' Cross "we must repair the wrong we have
done and feel reconciled".
The event included a pilgrimage from the Monastery of the Incarnation to the Cathedral of La
Almudena, where Cardinal Rouco presided a Mass. During his homily, the Archbishop of
Madrid recalled to the young faithful gathered at the Cathedral several passages from the
Passion of the Lord, stressing the Lord's obedience to the Father. In this example of Christ,
obedient even until death, "we see the most important conclusions for our life", the Cardinal
finally stated.
